Built for the Mac

A Mac player,
the way it should be.

Luma is built natively for macOS and behaves like it, with a sidebar, right-click menus and a proper settings window. You can set up almost everything about it the way you listen.

Library

Add a folder and Luma sorts the rest.

Pick your music folders with ⌘O. Luma reads them where they are and sorts everything by album, artist and song, rescanning at launch and with ⌘R. Move or rename files and they keep their likes, play counts and places in playlists.

Customizable

The player adapts to you.

Your home page shows what you pin. You decide what the sidebar shows, whether dynamic playlists get a section of their own, whether collections come before playlists and what opens at launch. You also choose the app icon, a light or dark look and the shape of the covers.

Menu bar

The menu bar shows what’s playing.

Up in the menu bar you see the current song and what’s up next, without opening the window.

Media keys

The play key is Luma’s.

If you like, your keyboard’s play/pause, next and previous keys always control Luma, even after a video played in the browser.

Equalizer

The equalizer has its own window.

Ten bands with a curve and presets, and a double-click resets. Open it as a window with ⌥⌘E or right at the playback bar.

Controls

Everything works with mouse and keyboard.

Search the whole library with ⌘F, select several songs with ⌘ and ⇧, right-click any item for its menu, and keep the queue in its own column alongside.

Playlists & export

Nothing gets stuck in Luma.

You import and export playlists as files and back up the whole library to a folder. Whatever you delete goes to the Trash.

Edit info

You edit tags in a real Mac window.

Title, artist, album, genre and cover sit in one window, and you just drag a new cover in from the Finder.

Sound & library

Everything a good
player needs.

That means lossless playback, clean transitions and a library that thinks along, and none of it needs an account.

Bit-perfect

FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF and more play without conversion, exactly as they were mastered.

Gapless and cross-fade

Live albums and mixes play without a gap, or Luma fades smoothly for up to twelve seconds.

Volume normalization

Luma measures your library in the background, so no album is louder than the next.

Lyrics

Luma shows the lyrics from your music files, synced lyrics follow along, and nothing is downloaded from the internet.

Dynamic playlists and collections

Dynamic playlists fill themselves by your rules, say with 80s rock, and collections keep whole albums together.

Listening statistics

Luma counts listening time, top songs and top artists, and the numbers stay on your Mac.

Luma Transfer built in

Your music goes
straight to your iPhone.

Select albums, playlists or your whole collection and choose “Send to iPhone with Luma Transfer”. Luma on your iPhone or iPad takes the songs in straight from device to device, with no server and no detour through the Finder.

More about Luma Transfer

Wi-Fi or cable

On the same Wi-Fi, Luma finds your iPhone by itself. A USB cable works just as well.

You accept

You confirm every transfer on the iPhone, so nobody can send you music unasked.

No duplicates

Songs already on the iPhone are skipped before a single byte is sent. If the connection drops, a second try only sends what’s still missing.

Keyboard shortcuts

The important commands
have a shortcut.

Every command is also in the menu bar. If you like, Luma shows your friends on Discord what you’re listening to, and with “Hide Song Title” they only see that you’re listening to Luma. All shortcuts in the help center

  • Add music folder ⌘O
  • Rescan library ⌘R
  • Search library ⌘F
  • Next track ⌘→
  • Previous track ⌘←
  • Skip 15 seconds ⇧⌘→ ←
  • Equalizer ⌥⌘E
  • Import playlists ⇧⌘I
  • Export all playlists ⇧⌘E
